My entire family is the product of the public school system. I attended K-12 in the Anderson school districts, earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Davis and an additional bachelors and a doctorate from the University of California at San Francisco. My wife of 30 years, Teresa, likewise attended K-12 in the Bay Area public schools and is also a UC Davis graduate.  We have five wonderful children, all of whom graduated from the Grant and Shasta Union High School Districts and are attending or graduated from the UC system. I feel we were all well prepared for our post high school experiences, and I want to assure this success to future Shasta County graduates.

Needless to say, I am a firm believer in the California public education system and look forward to seeing our schools continue to work well in educating “our” kids. Whether these students are on to college, career, or military service, my goal is to enable them to be fully prepared to fulfill their dreams after they graduate from the Shasta Union High School District.

It cannot be said often enough, that the future success of our nation depends upon how well we educate our young people today. The challenges and opportunities our students will face, after they graduate from high school, are difficult for us to foresee. It is our responsibility as parents, teachers, administrators and trustees to ensure that our students have the tools to compete and succeed in the rapidly changing economic landscape. Our students, in the Shasta Union High School District, are fortunate to have dedicated teachers, staff and administrators who truly care about students and their future success. I am grateful to have the opportunity to work together with all of these talented people, to provide our students with the best that the educational community has to offer.

Our family moved to Palo Cedro in 1996. We feel very blessed to live in an area with such magnificent natural beauty. We have three terrific kids, all attending high school at present. Therefore, my hobbies are, helping with homework, attending athletic events, volunteering at school, raising swine for 4-H and caring for two dogs, two ducks, a cat, four doves and a rabbit.

"Our students are our future," we have often heard said. And I truly believe that is true. Today's high school students are our future business owners, teachers, doctors, presidents and so much more. The success of our students greatly depends on how well teachers, parents, trustees, and other administrators can work together to provide a positive experience and education for their high school career. Our job is to educate and help them to thrive in high school, not just survive the experience. I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with the other trustees, teachers, and parents to help provide this thriving environment for our students.

Our family moved to Redding in 2008. We love the outdoors and all the fun opportunities to travel a short distance to a lake or a mountain. I love the water and often visit the different lakes and waterfalls in the area. My background includes teaching, athletic directing, and being a small business owner. I have a commitment to our youth and have been actively involved as an athletic director, and a coach, as well as, volunteering with non-profits, and teaching for over 20 years. As a SUHSD Board member, I look forward to listening to and working with parents, students, teachers, and board administrators.

I was born on an Air Force base in Moses Lake, Washington, where my father was a meteorologist who gave weather reports to spy planes over Russia. My mother was an RN. I graduated law school from the University of La Verne in Southern California. While in law school I worked as a substitute teacher including long term ESL mathematics. A solo law practice since 1990 followed. My daughter graduated from Shasta High. Her mother is a Redding hairdresser. My daughter was two time female swimmer of the year and then swam for Oregon State which ended their swimming program in 2019 and she transferred to Northern University in South Dakota on a full athletic scholarship, graduating in 2022. Swimming was very good for her. I was a typical swim parent and was involved as a swim official.

There at Northern she now seeks a masters degree. I told her I was running for the school Board. She asked why, I told here that I wanted to give back. Shasta was very good for my daughter. The teachers and coaches were very good.

My hobby is climate change, as son of a military meteorologist, something my father and I talked a lot about before he passed from cancer about 10 years ago. I too was in the Army Reserves and my MOS was electronics. Ironically, our family was evacuated after the Carr fire. That fire destroyed half our neighborhood. Specifically I am interested in an electrical complexity to climate and CO2 and the Gaia hypothesis. Recently this hobby has been put to video on YouTube and you can find my channel under my name and the term “convergence”. I believe technology is rapidly converging and shining light on the subject.

It is an honor to have been given the opportunity to serve on the Shasta Union High School District Board of Trustees. I am passionate about education and believe that a strong educational foundation is the answer to many challenges that we have in our society. For the last 25 years I have served in executive leadership roles in nonprofit organizations focused mostly on healthcare throughout California. As the current Executive Director of Dignity Health Connected Living (DHCL), I am able to serve the community through a multitude of programs and services keeping people healthy and making their lives better in Northern California.

In my free time I love to serve our community in various ways. It has been my honor to have served on more than 20 nonprofit and government boards and committees in my career. Currently in addition to serving on the Shasta Union High School District (SUHSD) Board of Trustees, I have the privilege of serving on the First 5 Shasta Commission.  I am also a proud member and past president of the Redding Rotary Club and am a member and or serve on the board of other industry associations.

I am an alumnus of the Sierra Health Foundation Health Leadership Program and have graduate certificates in nonprofit Marketing and Fundraising from California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), and the Fundraising School at Indiana University.  I am an adjunct professor for University of Massachusetts Global (UMASSGlobal) and Simpson University, teaching graduate courses in organizational leadership.

I have a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Organizational Leadership from Chapman University and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Brandman University.

Originally from Southern California, Kara and I have been married since 1997 and have called rural Northern California our home since 2010. We continue to raise 2 of our 4 kids, (the 3rd and 4th are married), along with 1 sheep, 1 goat, 3 cats, 2 dogs and 4 acres of land.

I am truly honored to have been given the opportunity to act as the students’ voice by my peers. I am so glad that my teachers and classmates encouraged me to run for this position, and I feel that I will truly learn a lot this year. I’m currently a senior at Enterprise High School. At my school I am the editor in chief of the yearbook, a job I hold a lot of pride for. I am also involved with Science Bowl, Link Crew, and the California Scholarship Federation. Outside of school, I am the vice president of my 4-H club. I have been involved with 4-H for six years, and I have sold 5 pigs at the fair. I am hoping to attend a four year university after I graduate to major in political science or history, my favorite subject. I think this experience will be very beneficial to me and I am looking forward to serving my community.
