It is an honor to have been given the opportunity to serve on the Shasta Union High School District Board of Trustees. I am passionate about education and believe that a strong educational foundation is the answer to many challenges that we have in our society. For the last 25 years I have served in executive leadership roles in nonprofit organizations focused mostly on healthcare throughout California. As the current Executive Director of Dignity Health Connected Living (DHCL), I am able to serve the community through a multitude of programs and services keeping people healthy and making their lives better in Northern California.

In my free time I love to serve our community in various ways. It has been my honor to have served on more than 20 nonprofit and government boards and committees in my career. Currently in addition to serving on the Shasta Union High School District (SUHSD) Board of Trustees, I have the privilege of serving on the First 5 Shasta Commission.  I am also a proud member and past president of the Redding Rotary Club and am a member and or serve on the board of other industry associations.

I am an alumnus of the Sierra Health Foundation Health Leadership Program and have graduate certificates in nonprofit Marketing and Fundraising from California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), and the Fundraising School at Indiana University.  I am an adjunct professor for University of Massachusetts Global (UMASSGlobal) and Simpson University, teaching graduate courses in organizational leadership.

I have a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Organizational Leadership from Chapman University and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Brandman University.

Originally from Southern California, Kara and I have been married since 1997 and have called rural Northern California our home since 2010. We continue to raise 2 of our 4 kids, (the 3rd and 4th are married), along with 1 sheep, 1 goat, 3 cats, 2 dogs and 4 acres of land.

"Our students are our future," we have often heard said. And I truly believe that is true. Today's high school students are our future business owners, teachers, doctors, presidents and so much more. The success of our students greatly depends on how well teachers, parents, trustees, and other administrators can work together to provide a positive experience and education for their high school career. Our job is to educate and help them to thrive in high school, not just survive the experience. I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with the other trustees, teachers, and parents to help provide this thriving environment for our students.

Our family moved to Redding in 2008. We love the outdoors and all the fun opportunities to travel a short distance to a lake or a mountain. I love the water and often visit the different lakes and waterfalls in the area. My background includes teaching, athletic directing, and being a small business owner. I have a commitment to our youth and have been actively involved as an athletic director, and a coach, as well as, volunteering with non-profits, and teaching for over 20 years. As a SUHSD Board member, I look forward to listening to and working with parents, students, teachers, and board administrators.

Hello, my name is Lucas Wilson.  I was appointed to the SUHSD board in June of 2024 and elected to the board in November of 2024 for a 2-year term. I have been involved with the school district in some form for the past 20 years as a volunteer, coach, fundraiser, and general supporter. I love the experience my kids have received in our school district, and I’d like the culture of the district to continue for generations.

I grew up in Shasta County and attended school in the Enterprise Elementary School District where my father was my band teacher. I graduated from Enterprise High School in 1996 and then attended Shasta College.  After that I transferred to Sacramento State for undergraduate and graduate school where I received my master's degree in physical therapy.  I have been a physical therapist in Redding since graduating from college. Serving on the school board feels like a positive way to give back to the district that started me on a successful path.

When I was appointed to the board in 2024, my primary focus was the students in the Shasta Union High School District.  It is a pleasure to serve with my fellow board members who all share the same belief, and work hard to make decisions in the best interest of the students at all times. I enjoy seeing and hearing about all the outstanding activities and programs our students have at their fingertips. During my time with the school board, I will do my best to continue the positive culture of this school district and ensure that every student has an opportunity to succeed in life.

My entire family is the product of the public school system. I attended K-12 in the Anderson school districts, earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Davis and an additional bachelors and a doctorate from the University of California at San Francisco. My wife of 30 years, Teresa, likewise attended K-12 in the Bay Area public schools and is also a UC Davis graduate.  We have five wonderful children, all of whom graduated from the Grant and Shasta Union High School Districts and are attending or graduated from the UC system. I feel we were all well prepared for our post high school experiences, and I want to assure this success to future Shasta County graduates.

Needless to say, I am a firm believer in the California public education system and look forward to seeing our schools continue to work well in educating “our” kids. Whether these students are on to college, career, or military service, my goal is to enable them to be fully prepared to fulfill their dreams after they graduate from the Shasta Union High School District.
