General Information
Term of Office: The Board of Trustees welcomes a Student Board Member from Enterprise High School, Foothill High School, Shasta High School and Alternative Education (Pioneer Continuation High School/ Shasta Collegiate Academy). Based on the total number of Student Board Members, a rotation will be set in place to attend Board meetings for the 2025-2026 school year.
Time Requirement: Student Board Members are welcome to attend all meetings and are expected to attend the monthly meetings they are assigned to. Regular Board meetings are usually held on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. Board meetings are typically 2 - 3 hours long and are held at the Shasta Union High School District. In addition, sufficient time is needed prior to the meeting to study the agenda packet materials and prepare a brief update of school activities to share at the meeting; and, as needed, time to attend selected committee meetings, events, or workshops. Student Board Members are also expected to serve as a member of the Superintendent Student Advisory Council which meets typically 4 times per year.
Application Process
How to Apply: Submit the following to Executive Assistant Laura Lievense at llievense@suhsd.net by Friday, May 16.
- Statement Letter: Submit a letter stating why you are interested in serving as a Student Board Member. Provide us with some background about yourself, and explain why your experiences would qualify you to serve as a Student Board Member. This can include extra-curricular activities (sports, work, clubs, volunteering) or personal life experiences. Explain what perspective you would bring to the Shasta Union High School District Board of Trustees, and what you would gain from serving on the Board.
- Letters of Recommendation: Provide at least one letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, administrator, coach, mentor, classmate, etc.
Selection Process/Election
An election will be held, and your school’s student body will be asked to vote online between May 19 and May 30 for their Student Board Member representative. Your statement letter and letter(s) of recommendation will be available for the study body to review. Applicants will be notified by the Superintendent’s office by June 3 of the election results. In the event there is only one applicant for the position, they will win by default.
