The Shasta Union High School District acts as the lead agency for the Indian Education program which is composed of six High Schools, as well as 11 K-8 School Districts. These 12 districts make up the Shasta County Indian Education Consortium. April Carmelo is our Indian Education Coordinator. April is assisted by the Indian Education Instructional Paraprofessional Rossana Roman. The Indian Ed office is located at Shasta Learning Center. The program’s primary goals are scholastic achievement, cultural awareness, positive role modeling, and parent/student involvement, promote self-esteem, community involvement and encourage higher education. Peleen Boos Camp
P’Eleen Boos Indian Education Camp has been moved from the second week in June to August 6-10, 2007. All Native American Children from Shasta County are eligible to attend. Graduation Dinner
Join us for the annual Cultural Dinner and Gathering to Honor Native American Graduates
When: Wednesday, May 31, 2006, Where: Win River Casino’s “Eagle Room”, Time 6-8 p.m.
All graduates will be honored. Special recognition will be given to those with good attendance, 3.0 GPA and above, Special Honors for Community Service. Dinner will be served. DEADLINE May 14 ,2007

Talking Circles - 6-8:00 pm - The young men’s and women’s talking circle is a place where Native youth can share traditions, culture and meet new people. For ages 12-20, all participants receive a $10 gift cart for participating Call Irma 275-1513 for transportation, all meetings include dinner/gift card transportation.

Sewing and Beading Class - 10 a.m.-12 noon - Instructor: Valerie Estrada classes are held at Redding Rancheria Community Building. Valerie is able to instruct on all styles of beading, sewing dance regalia, quilting. Material are not provided. Things to bring-sewing machine, bobbins, thread, material, designs, beads, heavy weight pelon, needles.
